Hello! I'm Luana, a professor of Italian, Latin, French and Ancient Greek with 27 years of teaching experience and a PhD earned in France. I live between France and Italy, and I also lived in Hong Kong, which I still visit regularly. I offer personalized on-line lessons tailored to your goals.
Whether you're a complete beginner, a high school or university student, or a PhD candidate, I can help you learn with a clear, structured, and effective method.
My courses are also designed for travelers and anyone who wants to experience Italy and France with confidence. You'll learn how to have simple everyday conversations while shopping in Milan, Rome, or Paris, order food in restaurants and cafés, explore places like Provence, Florence, Venice, make new connections, and communicate naturally in real-life situations. If you've always wanted to speak Italian or French but didn't know where to start, these lessons are made for you.
Are these languages difficult?
Only if they're taught the wrong way.
In my lessons, we laugh, we make mistakes, we learn, and we grow—always in that order.
My goal is to help you feel confident, enjoy the learning process, and start speaking naturally from the very beginning.

I've been teaching since 1997… yes, that's a lot of years, a lot of students, and probably a few thousand cups of coffee!
I was born in Italy and studied in Rome, L'Aquila, Ancona, Teramo...Aix-en-Provence. In 2007, I became a tenured high school teacher, teaching both scientific and classical students. In other words, I spent my days between equations, ancient texts, and teenagers trying to convince me that homework was "forgotten" somewhere on another planet.
Then came the plot twist worthy of a movie: I packed my bags and moved to Provence, France to earn a PhD (written entirely in French!) on Conspiracy Theories and Fake News. Yes... from Latin to fake-news—it makes more sense than you might think! 😊
While living in France, I had the pleasure of teaching Italian to students from all over the world and teaching at Aix-Marseille University. Every class was a new journey, and that's exactly what I love most about teaching: meeting people, sharing cultures, and watching confidence grow.
Over the years, I've taught a wide range of subjects: Italian, Latin, Ancient Greek, History, Geography, Art, Music, Philosophy, Psychology... and even Law! Not because I couldn't decide what I liked best—but because I'm endlessly curious. I genuinely believe every subject opens a different window onto the world, and I still love learning as much as I love teaching.
My philosophy is simple: knowledge is only useful when it becomes part of your life. That's why my lessons aren't about memorizing endless rules or surviving boring grammar exercises. They're about real conversations, practical situations, curiosity, questions, laughter, and making mistakes without being afraid of them. (Trust me, mistakes are often the fastest way to learn!)
I also love teaching through real-life experiences and stories. A lesson can start with the lyrics of a beautiful Italian or french song, because sometimes a melody can explain emotions better than a thousand words. Or we can explore a traditional recipe together — because in Italy and France, food is not just food, it is history, culture, and a very good excuse to talk for hours around a table!
We can plan a dream journey through Italy or France, discover hidden villages, learn how to order in a restaurant without accidentally asking for something completely different (yes, Italian and French menus can be adventurous!), or explore the world of art through the masterpieces of artists like Caravaggio, Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael...
And of course, we can talk about fashion and shopping in Milan or in Paris — because learning Italian or French while discovering the secrets of Italian and French style is a little like eating tiramisù: once you start, you don’t really want to stop!
And what do I do when I'm not teaching? I try to prove that "sitting still" is not really my talent! I sing jazz, run marathons around the world, cycle, play golf, travel whenever I can, and I have a serious weakness for fashion—Italian and French, of course. 😉
And then there is Hong Kong, another place that feels like home. My husband and I lived there for a while, and I still return regularly. Over the years, I have built wonderful friendships and strong connections, so every visit feels a little like coming back to family.
Living between Italy, France, and Hong Kong has taught me something beautiful: every culture has its own rhythm, humor, way of thinking, and way of telling stories.
That is what I bring into my lessons: not just grammar and vocabulary, but real-life experiences, cultural curiosity, and a little bit of Italian energy. Because learning a language should not feel like a punishment… it should feel like opening a door to a new world.

Thanks to her strong professional experience and to her natural empathy, Luana helped me in finding the best way that fits to me.
She focused on my attitudes and interests, but also on my difficulties turning them out as starting points to improve myself.
Her coaching support gave me a strong contribution to reach my goals, both personal and professional ones.
Thank you very much Luana, I really appreciate all your hard and kind work.

"I would like to share my experience with Luana, who is truly an exceptional person. If you're looking for a teacher, she is the right choice. She helped me tremendously during the COVID pandemic, when I was feeling depressed and didn't know what to do with my life. She encouraged me to overcome my difficulties and never stopped believing in me. Luana is incredibly determined and gives 100% to everything she does. Her dedication goes far beyond teaching—she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I wholeheartedly recommend her as a teacher."

Luana Di Giannatale was my teacher for five months, from October 2010 until February 2011. During that time, she was able to coach me and improve my performance in different areas such as the Italian language, culture as well as integration with the community.
Furthermore, Luana improved my self-esteem and ability to pursue a good life and choose the right career paths.
I believe that Luana’s coaching attitude has empowered me and crucially shaped my personality and my successful integration into Europe.
I would recommend Luana to everyone who needs the proper support and a motivated teacher that loves what she does.

I would strongly recommend Luana as a personal teacher. She is absolutely passionate about her job, but above all she is a caring and empathetic individual, who takes care of your psychological well being with an holistic approach. Her encouraging and non judgemental attitude has empowered me, making me able to reach my academic and professional goals. However, the most precious achievement is the self confidence I was able to reach working with Luana. Indeed, she is focused on highlitghting the client’s personal strenghts, thanks also to her ability to build authentic and meaningful relationships. Luana made me understand that my difficulties and fragilities were not something to be ashamed of, but a starting point to create new opportunities. Thank you again Luana for your invaluable support. I did not find just a “teacher” that helped me “fix some problems” but a determinate and gracious woman who brought out the best part of me!
